Program Description

Emerging Authors

An emerging author is a writer who has some professional experience and recognition but has not yet reached an established level. The term is often used to describe early-career writers who may need support. The library’s Emerging Author Collection offers local authors the opportunity to have their books on shelves and in circulation, receive wider exposure, and reach an audience they might not otherwise influence. Learn more about the Emerging Author Collection, including how to submit your work. This winter, the library is also supporting early-career writers with programs, tools, and encouragement!

Details

Most people think that creating picture books for children is easy. But that is a myth. With succinct text, a balance between words and illustrations, and several more elements that make them shine, picture books are one of the most challenging genres to write, and the publication process often takes more than two years! Srividhya Venkat, an award-winning picture book author, will share the things she’s learned since the start of her writing journey over a decade ago. Using her picture books as examples, Srividhya will talk about the publication process and answer questions. For adults and high school students.
